INTAKE PROCESS

 

1. Commission request

The process begins when you send me an email to kirst@kirstenbollen.com with a description of what you’re looking for, your vision, and providing the following details:

  • Subject. Please be as detailed as possible in explaining your vision and include any applicable inspiration photos. Details such as; time of day, season, colour palette, mood, tone, previous work of mine you enjoy, etc. are helpful at this stage. I’m also open to new takes on my previous work.

  • Size and material. Click here for a list of available sizes and prices.

  • Desired pick-up date. I will try to accommodate any special dates you are working towards.

  • Indicate if you will require shipping. Shipping may be available for smaller works at an additional fee. Projects that can be picked up will be prioritized.

2. DEPOSIT

Once I have reviewed your request and have interest in your proposal, I will confirm your spot, along with a cost and time estimate. A non-refundable 40% deposit will hold your spot and be used to purchase materials.

3. Digital Sketch

Based on our discussion of your vision and before I start painting, I will draft a digital sketch of what the painting will look like for your approval (for commissions 20” and larger).

Once you receive the sketch, you will have the chance to provide input and request up to two minor adjustments. Additional adjustments, major adjustments, or a new sketch will be at an additional charge. Please note, the final painting is not usually an exact copy of the sketch, but will be very close.

4. Painting

Once you approve the sketch, I will notify you when I start the painting and welcome periodic inquiries along the way.

Choosing me as an artist involves some trust, and you can expect a certain style and quality of work, as shared on my Instagram portfolio.

5. PICKUP

Upon completion of the painting, I will send a picture and arrange a time for pick up! Please note, requests for changes to the painting after it is complete will be at an extra cost.

  • I prefer local pick-up as there are risks to shipping artwork and I have limited packaging supplies on hand. Shipping within Canada may be possible for smaller pieces at an additional fee. Delivery in Calgary area may also be possible at an additional fee.

  • Yes, I paint murals! Send me the details of what you’re looking for and let’s see if we can make it happen.

  • Those paintings were a special commission for the Moxy hotel in Banff. They were overlapping 36” round birch panels. They required special installation and subject considerations because of the unique design. I can offer this style again, or a more practical option could be creating a similar image on raw canvas.
